PRIMARY COORDINATOR

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the final term of school for 2020. It has been fantastic to see our students back to on-site learning. During this unprecedented time there have been many disappointments for our students as they have missed out on many ‘normal’, school experiences, like excursions and incursions.

In saying this, we planned the Athletics Carnival for all students on 28th October and the Billabong Ranch Camp for students from Years 3-6 on the 16th and 17th November. There has been a slight change in the camp dates. We have also planned our Foundation 2021 Transitions and we are trying to finalise plans for our Year 6’s Graduation. We will continue to share our plans as we move through the term.

I know there might have been disappointment over our announcement that Sports Day would be for students only. But considering the Covid restrictions on gatherings and the policing of social distancing which is an expectation of us from the Greater Shepparton Council, we had to make this decision.

Foundation 2021 Transition

The 18th and 25th November are the Transition Days for our Foundation students of 2021 from 9a.m-11a.m. Students need to be dropped off at school by 9a.m and picked up at 11a.m on the above 2 days.

School Uniform

Once again, a reminder about our school uniform. We can still see students coming to school in P.E. uniform on days they don’t have P.E. lessons. P.E. is only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Some students continue to wear runners on other days, which is not acceptable. Shoes should be black only but do not necessarily need to be leather. Our Sirius College school uniform should be worn correctly and be in good condition. Please also ensure all items of clothing are named as our tub of lost property is overflowing with jackets that are un-named.

School Pick Up and Drop Off

If you decide to pick your child up from school instead of them travelling on the bus on a particular day, please report to the office first as the bus gets delayed waiting for your child/children to board and also this becomes a cause of worry for school staff. Recently, we have had parents coming straight to the buses or near the gates and taking their child home. This is not acceptable and unsafe.

Also, all parents picking their children up or dropping them off should park in the parking spaces located at the back near the soccer oval due to a lot of traffic at the front which is unsafe for children.

Hats and Drink Bottles

Term 4 is a Sun-Smart term. Students are expected, to wear their school hat outside, at all times. Students who do not have a hat will be asked to sit in the shade. If your child requires a new hat, they may buy it at the school office for $15. We encourage students to apply sunscreen before coming to school. Extra sunscreen is available in the classrooms.

Students should also be bringing a water bottle to school every day and drinking water regularly.

Transportation

All students travelling on the school bus are expected to follow the Code of Conduct for School Bus Travel. Any breach of this code can result in students being suspended from travelling on the bus during the time of suspension.

You should discuss the code with your child so they clearly understand what they should and should not do when travelling on a school bus.

Behaviour

Examples of how to meet the Code of Conduct

Respect other people and property

  • Treat other people and their possessions with respect.
  • Follow the bus driver’s directions without argument.
  • Store school bags/equipment under the seat.

While on the bus, conduct yourself in an orderly manner

Students must:

  • Follow all instructions issued by the driver and must wear seat belts if they are fitted.
  • Speak quietly and do not create unnecessary noise that may distract the driver.

Students must not:

  • Stand on the bus if standing is not permitted. Move around on the bus or unbuckle the seat belt while it is in motion.
  • Place feet or jump on the seats, or stand forward of the front passenger seat.
  • Fight, bully, harass or intimidate other occupants.
  • Vandalise or damage a seat belt fitted to a school bus or other students’ property.
  • Distract the driver.
  • Swear, yell and spit or use offensive language.
  • Leave rubbish on the bus.
  • Allow any part of their body to protrude from the bus while it is in motion.

Thank you and looking forward to your support on the above matters.

Regards,
Mrs. Tarbinder Pandher
